I continue to look for the beauty in everyday objects. My featured image is my dining room light, and I am grateful to have it in my home. Simply said, it makes me feel warm and happy just to look at it. I wonder, what do you have that makes you happy at home? Whatever it may be, do yourself a favor, and take a moment to experience gratitude for what you already have instead of longing for something else.
As I reflect on these words, I can’t help but think how having that same sense of gratitude for simple pleasures (a pretty lamp or a cute cup of raspberries) really is important. However, it is even more important to be grateful and mindful of my body. My body bore three children, I carried me through college, it lets me sit alongside my students, run, walk, bend – spin… I am grateful for my body, just as it was, and how it is now.
I read this book years ago by Geneen Roth called Women, Food, and God: An Unexpected Path to Almost Everything: It is an intense but meaningful read which I highly recommend. In her book Roth writes:
“Your body is the piece of the universe you’ve been given; as long as you have a pulse, it presents you with an ongoing shower of immediate sensate experiences.”
I think as I fully embrace my body with a sense of sincere gratitude, I am becoming more present in my life. As a result, I am learning how to live more mindfully. I hope this makes sense to you because it’s something that I’ve been thinking about for a long time and I’m still thinking about it as I travel on my path to goal. More tomorrow…
